Despite all their efforts aspiring yoga teachers find it difficult to gather the confidence to become a yoga teacher. Becoming a yoga teacher is primarily about finding your inner voice. And failure to comprehend this notion builds some fears in one’s mind. And these fears consequently make it harder for one to find the inner voice.
Let’s discuss what these fears are to find out how one can overcome them.
I Don’t Have Enough Experience
True, that every corner of the world is full of yoga teachers today, and most practitioners want to learn from experienced yoga teachers. However, it doesn’t ensure that the teacher also have a good understanding of students’ needs. Therefore, as an aspiring yoga teacher you must try to understand what your students’ needs are, so that they have a reason to choose you.
I Don’t Know about Many Yoga Poses
Initially, it is inevitable to have this misconception but you must teach yourself to know better. Yoga doesn’t comprise a handful of poses and even a lifetime isn’t enough to learn all of them. Therefore, it would not be wrong to regard this notion as a naïve one. The important thing is to know thoroughly about what you know.
I Don’t Know Enough about Yoga Philosophy
No training course puts an obligation on its students that they have to go through the yoga philosophy to learn yoga. Besides, if you are practicing yoga sincerely then you will be able to unravel the essence of yoga by becoming aware of your being. Therefore, you need not memorize some text to learn yoga philosophy, but create your own yoga philosophy by delving deeper into the process.
My Training Isn’t Helping Me in Finding My Inner Voice
Many practitioners develop these feelings because they didn’t get what they had expected from yoga teacher training. They feel that their program isn’t structured well and teachers aren’t providing the necessary insights that they need to find their inner voice. It may be just a feeling, or it may be the reality, but it doesn’t mean that there is no hope.
True, that yoga teacher’s instructions are valuable but it is your own practice that will eventually guide you in finding your inner voice. Do not get distracted by any negative thoughts and be dedicated towards your practice and you will be able to find your inner voice.
If you have these fears then spending some time at a yoga hub such as a yoga retreat in Rishikesh, Dharamshala, Bali, etc. will be helpful. Most teachers at these retreats are learned yogis who know what fears aspiring yoga teachers have and help them accordingly. Besides, most of these retreats are in the lap of nature that enables practitioners to become more aware of themselves, and this eventually helps them in finding their inner voice.
