With more and more people opting for yoga throughout the world, new yoga needs continue to arise.Finding an ideal place to give yoga lessons is one of the biggest challenges that most aspiring yoga teachers are facing today. Everyone cannot teach at yoga retreats or afford to have his or her own yoga studio; therefore, most teachers decide to teach yoga at their homes. But here another challenge comes to surface; the challenge of building a learning environment that matches the environment of yoga retreats and studios.
The experience you want to give your students basically depends upon these three factors.
Time: What time of the day you have scheduled the class?. Although, morning hours are considered to be the best time for practicing yoga, but you should schedule your class primarily in accordance to your students’ needs.
Space:
How much space students get in performing the poses freely; possible without any adjustments?. You can ensure this by deciding how many students you should enroll in one session.
Method:
It is also important that you choose a method of teaching that satisfies your student’s needs. You need to make sure that your students are comfortable with your teaching method. Therefore, the best solution is start off with the method that works best for you and then continue to modify it in accordance to your students’ needs.
Apart from these factors, you can put some efforts in a couple of more things to ensure that your students get a good learning environment at your yoga class.
Room Priorities
Any room in your house can serve as a yoga room if
a. it is spacious enough,
b. it has good ventilation, and
c) it’s furniture can be shifted to other rooms without causing much trouble
Room Equipping
Except for adding a few essential things, you can keep things simple if you think you are not good at decorating things. Usually, practitioners prefer to practice yoga with soft music, so you can have a couple of speakers installed in the yoga room. You can also have your laptop during the practice to show your students videos that can help them in learning something you consider important for them to know.
The important thing about equipping a room is providing students mats, blocks and other props for the yoga practice. Most yoga practitioners expect these things, since yoga studios and retreats usually provide these facilities.
Beside these things, you can also paste some inspiring quotes on the walls of the yoga room. But remember to have them pasted a little higher since practitioners often require the support of the wall in doing some yoga poses.
Apart from ensuring these factors, you also need to make sure that you are able to make your students understand the true concept behind yoga practice. And if things work out well for you, maybe soon enough you will find yourself teaching yoga in India at a yoga retreat in Rishikesh or Dharamshala, or at any other part of the world known for best yoga practices.
